Interview - Monkey Temple

Back in 1998 at the very Initial and also a Hardest struggling time on Nepali Music Scene , Scene was gradually getting louder with just some bands and very least listening ears . At the same time passionate  young  group arise as “Monkey Temple”  Its already been around quarter century that band is still able to continue there strong passion providing a beautiful Modern rock Music . Back in 2002 “Monley Temple “ came out with there debut full length album titled "Black Bee and The Flower"  and after it just being busy on the stages around Kathmandu Valley and also some major cities overhere In Nepal they hardly spent next 10 years and came out with secand  Album titled “Shades Of Grey” . “Anumati” one of the creation of Monkey Temple was the very first song to be aired on MTV  . Getting different obstacles on Line-up on the  band though they are  still busy on  stages and also some of there new singles too  . You guys also can catch them live at Irish Pub / Kathmandu on every  Friday Night too . Inquiring about there Journey we “Lets Support Nepali Bands “ caught  one of the Founding member of the Band “Sareen Deoja”  who is  frontman of the band he shares something about his band on his own words .

Monkey Temple got Slight change on Lineup, Lets start our short conversation with new Line-Up?

Yes,  we always had line-up changes , I do not blame anyone for  leaving the band , it’s pretty difficult to keep going  strong in this field , it’s very easy to stray away as in country such as Nepal Music Scene can never serve as a career  only few have done real well , For me Monkey Temple and Music in not only a passion it’s an addiction now so I think I will keep on going no matter what goes . This New line up we have Dipesh Shrestha on guitar who comes from a Metal Background , he used to be one of the lead guitarist for the band  “Define Mental”  But  he is a very  versatile  and a mature guitar player who pretty much fits right into our band as he is also very much influenced by Blues, Alternative Rock and  other forms of Rock Genre.  he plays a lot of RHCP and I think the guy has potential to play any style or any Genre in terms of Western rock oriented music. We have Zenis on Bass who also plays for Ashesh Nekhvam and of course Pratap  on Drum who is the only constant member of the band  since 2010 , I consider Pratap as an Original Member of the band having contributed a lot to the band along with drumming contribution on two full-fledged albums.

Being one of the Old member on group, is it difficult to Continue the project ?

Yes its extremely difficult, Honestly speaking I have found out that it’s pretty hard for people to stick around if they are not the forming members . Only Forming members who have an attachment with the music and brand name that they have created stick around for a long period of time because it’s their brainchild , it’s their baby  I have seen that with a lot of  other bands because except for name and music you can proudly say that you have created there is not much financial gain but for a  forming member it’s the Name ,the legacy that they have created which means a lot to  them more than anything and in Monkey Temple’s case its only me all the other forming members have parted ways long time back, I consider Pratap to be the only other original member  who have contributed a lot to the band without being a Forming member of this band.

Hearing about you we had listen that Monkey Temple is now not actively on scene, You guys were lost somewhere after your last album launch is it true?

Yes after the last album the whole country got lost (Laughs) We had a big Earthquake  , it was right after the release of our Third self-titled  Album and then our long time  Ulto guitarist also ran away from the country (Laughs) Just Joking , Our long time left handed guitarist migrated to a different country as he probably got better job opportunity with his educational background  so that was the period we took a break from the scene but now with the new , young and Enthusiastic line up we are very much active and we are looking forward to playing a lot of Shows in the Future.

What will be the next Release now?? New Album Or any Official Videos?

I Think we Will be Releasing few Videos but not a new album not anytime soon , I think we might take a long break from coming out with a full  album but we will keep on pushing and coming out with the Singles.

“  Monkey temple” we want to take this band as Lyrical band, How you guys work on Writing?

Well I do most of the lyrics writing and I think Lyrics writing has to come out from the inside ,, I don’t  really sit down to write lyrics  it just happens  you never know and then you  write it down on a piece of paper and later compose it or sometimes you do both simultaneously.

Is Nepali Music scene is satisfied? or need some Changes ??

We all know that this country needs a Change and so does our Music scene. I don’t really want  to talk about what kind of changes but I have seen a lot of mediocre musicians succeed more than the real talented ones here in our music scene I guess the mediocre ones know how to lie to your face and make people happy so they succeed not by the qualities of musical skills  in them but by what they call in our Nepali Lingo  “CHAPLUSI “  I Guess the real ones are always Blunt.

Is there anything to share with your well wishers?
Thank you all for supporting us , An Artist or a  band is nothing without their Supporters , We love you all and we will keep on pushing ourselves no matter what, We would like to  urge all the people who have watched our videos on YouTube and have supported us with so many views  and likes and comments to keep sharing our videos and letting more organizers know that you would want us to come play live shows in different corners of the world and lastly we would like to thank Woozwol bhai and “Lets Support Nepali Bands” team for their tremendous support  towards  Nepali Music.
